Los MorenosLos Morenos music is best described as ‘spanish erotica laid on a bed of groove’. Fueled by fiery nouveau flamenco funk rhythms, LOS MORENOS crosses numerous stylistic barriers, and mixes rhumba flamenca, pop-jazz, funk and eastern sounds with an infectious dance beat.

Formed in Calgary, AB by El Salvadorian guitarist Mauricio Moreno back in 1999, the music of LOS MORENOS is inspired by artists such as Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola, Django Reinhardt, Gypsy Kings, Strunz and Farah, Santana, Jamiroquai and Parliament Funkadelic. They have toured across Canada playing over 3500 shows in the past eight years.

Performance highlights for the band include a private engagement for the Governor General of Canada, engagements for the Mayor of Calgary, Junofest 2008, mainstage at the Edmonton Folk Festival, opening for world superstars Angelique Kidjo, Cesaria Evora, Juan De Marcos Afro Cuban All Stars, Alpha Ya Ya Diallo, Third World and headlining Calgary’s Beercore Awards. A treasured highlight for the band was a sold-out headline show at Calgary’s Jack Singer Concert Hall as part of the BD&P World Music Series. In addition to playing clubs, theaters, folk and jazz festivals across Canada, the band is also a frequent guest on radio and television including spots on the CBC, CKUA radio Alberta, CJSW, Vancouver TV, A-Channel, CTV’s Good Morning Canada. With four cd’s to their credit, “Moviendo Te“, “Presence of You“, their live album “En Vivo“, and their most recent album “Transitions“, Los Morenos are currently working on their new album which will be released in early 2012. They continue to tour across Canada and will be heading to Europe and Japan.

“Transitions”

Los Morenos Album - "Transitions" (2007) Los Morenos’ most recent release. This album (hence the name ‘Transitions’) is where Los Morenos venture into fusing rhumba flamenco with soul, funk, r&b and electronica.

“Presence of You”

Los Morenos Album - "Presence of You"(2002) Los Morenos’ second album which features the singles ‘Bye Bye Baby’ and ‘Moviendo Te’. This album was released prior to Los Morenos’ sold out performance at Calgary’s Jack Singer Concert Hall. It also welcomes Marvin ‘the fly’ Kee as the prominent bass player of Los Morenos.

“Moviendo Te”

Los Morenos Album - "Moviendo Te"(1999) Los Morenos’ debut album sold about 30,000 units within the first year of its release. It features the gypsy style grit of the rhumba flamenco sound in where sparks flew for Los Morenos in the Calgary music scene. It introduced Mauricio Moreno as a guitar aficionado and also features the melodic vocal stylings and lyric writing of Eleanor Moreno.
